Getting your hair done is a treat that many of us look forward to every month or so. Having the full wash and condition, a new style and a blow dry afterward is a surefire way to make you feel pretty great.
However, if you’re going for the full works then there can be a lot of time to kill. Whilst it’s nice to catch up with your hairdresser a little, if you’re spending half a day at the salon, there might be only so much small talk you can make. With this in mind, we’ve come up with a whole host of great ways to be productive, feel extra pampered, and generally entertain yourself whilst at the hairdresser.
Get Gaming
One of the best ways to take your mind of things is by getting totally absorbed in something else. Games are a great distraction, and you might even find a new hobby whilst you’re sat in the chair. If you’re going to be sitting for a long time then bringing in a laptop opens up a whole new world of gaming to you, but any device with an internet connection will allow you to play a myriad of games online.
Online Games
Casino games can be a fun option as you only need wifi (or 4G) to start playing. In fact, some of the Bovada slot games even have a salon theme. Of course, mobile apps are a great choice too, they’re portable, tend not to be too much of a drain on your battery and are quick to pick up and put down as necessary.
Go Old School
If you want to ditch your battery life worries entirely then it’s also possible to go completely analog. Completing the daily crossword in your favorite newspaper or magazine is a good mental challenge. What’s more, some crosswords offer prizes to a select few who manage to solve it, so you might end up paying for your new haircut.
Double Up
There’s little more satisfying than getting two things done at once unless, of course, those things are beauty treatments. You’ll need to be a little sensible about what you choose, for example, getting hair extensions fitted and getting your haircut aren’t two things that can be undertaken simultaneously. However, there are a surprising number of beauty treatments that you can combine with a haircut and many salons offer them as options.
Manicure
A manicure or pedicure is a great choice to combine with a haircut. For a start, your hands and feet are plenty far enough away from your head for the additional treatment not to be a distraction. Also, we very often nip in to get a quick file and polish, but if you’re getting highlights done then you’ve got plenty of time for a proper soak, file, polish and finally getting rid of any dead skin.
DIY Facial
Manicures and pedicures will come at an extra cost, but if you want to feel extra beautiful without spending any extra then this next tip is for you. Giving yourself a DIY facial, using your own cleanser, moisturizer, and serums is a great way to leave the salon positively glowing. If you really want to spoil yourself then applying a face, lip, or eye mask will give you that extra boost.
Catch Up
We all live hugely busy lives nowadays which can mean that sometimes we get left behind with things. It might be that you’ve got a work project to finish, an old friend to catch up with, or a New Year’s Resolution that you haven’t even started yet. Well, your hair appointment might be the perfect time to get the ball rolling.
Work, work, work
Many people work on the morning commute, or even on the plane to somewhere, so why not in the salon chair? Bring along your laptop, if you need it, and your phone if not, and get cracking with some work. Leaving the salon looking glamorous and having got some paperwork out of the way will make you feel like a million bucks.
Reach Out
We would all like to see our friends more, but you need to reach out to organise a time for it. Whilst you’re having your hair done, drop a message to a small group of friends and see when they’re next free. Make a date in the diary and you’ll feel like a weight has been lifted. Of course, friendships are a joy, but feeling like you’re not putting the time in can be taxing. So, making those dates will ease that feeling and give you someone to show your shiny new locks off to.
Finally, A Good Book
There’s a reason there are magazines and books in the salon and that’s because they’re the easiest way to keep yourself amused. If you’ve not prepared something to keep you entertained, then reach for a glossy mag and indulge in a little gossip. Sure, it might not be the most productive, but everybody deserves some down time, so why not let this be yours!
